Eureka Springs was founded in 1879 around the mineral springs that first drew visitors into the Ozarks, and the Victorian building boom that followed left behind an unusually well-preserved historic town. Downtown climbs across the hillside along steep, winding streets and public stairways, with Basin Park at its center and historic springs scattered throughout the district. Spring Street and Main Street are lined with independent galleries, boutiques, restaurants, spas, and historic hotels, while bars and live music give downtown more energy after dark than many small-town getaways.
